AgBio[sphere] initiative features Advanced Animal Diagnostics

Robust ag biotech ecosystem fosters success for the animal science company

DURHAM, NC — November 6, 2014 — Advanced Animal Diagnostics (AAD) helped launch the AgBio[sphere] initiative of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center on Nov. 5. AAD is one example of agricultural biotechnology startups and companies that have established in Research Triangle Park, N.C., to benefit from the welcoming environment.

As part of the Nov. 5 kickoff celebration, Joy Parr Drach, AAD president and CEO, shared that AAD brings diagnostic solutions and information to point-of-cow. “AAD has benefited from the supportive community and access to talented employees with diverse skills, university collaborators, funding partners and numerous business connections in establishing the company and developing and testing QScout® diagnostic products,” she stated.

The animal science company is committed to researching, developing and commercializing the industry’s most reliable, on-farm diagnostic tests. With these diagnostic offerings, AAD aims to empower real-time management decisions that increase productivity, prevent losses, improve animal welfare and protect the food supply.

For the last decade, AAD has called the Research Triangle Park area home, one of the nation’s leading life science clusters, which encompasses $59 billion in annual economic activity. With a deeply rooted ecosystem in agriculture and life sciences, North Carolina is home to 80-plus agricultural biotechnology companies.

“Resources available to us in the AgBio[sphere] have accelerated our growth – from a start-up venture to an operating R&D company that launched its first commercial products, QScout MLD (milk leukocyte differential) test and QScout Farm Lab, in 2013,” Drach added.

About QScout MLD
QScout MLD is the only rapid, on-farm test that measures and assesses the cow’s immune response to infection, providing a positive or negative diagnosis for subclinical mastitis in each quarter – in three minutes per cow, on average. Click here for a video demonstration.
